We read No Ordinary Apple and practiced mindful eating. We also went back outside to take a stress break with more chalk art!
Students and teachers joined us for a Panther Pause stress break with chalk. We spread positive messages and had a fantastic time. One of the students shouted, "This is so calming! We should do this all of the time!"
NuYu members had a great time, too! Don't forget to Take A Panther Pause! We helped dozens of students create bullet journals for our Panther Pause for Mental Health Awareness Week today. Students learned the basics of designing their own journals and we shared out our journals as ways we deal with stress by focusing on gratitude.
Today we played "brain games" with students throughout the day and taught about how much of our lives are spent on autopilot. We are living on autopilot 46-51% of the time. NuYu wants to help everyone be present more often!
NuYu is partnering with the Guidance Counselors in May.
Join us for fun stress breaks throughout each day all week long! Today we celebrated a Mindful Monday with our friends in Spain by completing a glitter jar meditation and doing a read aloud of What Does It Mean To Be Present through a Google Hangout. We were also able to practice the Spanish we have been learning in our World Language classes by translating our meditation for our friends.
On Monday, 4/3/17, we are hosting the second round of our Panther "Pause" Challenge Sessions in order to reach more students. The introductory session will be in room 619 (the PRISM room) during 7th and 8th grade flex and 6th grade lunch. People who have already attended the sessions can come to this round as well! This time, we offer more activities such as mindful sports and outdoor meditation, mainly because the weather is nicer. We'll have Attitudes in Reverse come back with therapy dogs, and host two DIY mindfulness sessions!
We have previously been in contact with Dr. Vo via twitter - we are one of his followers and he has re-tweeted many of our tweets already. Recently, we have been talking to him via Twitter and set up a skype. Beforehand, we brainstormed questions to ask Dr. Vo, including ones about his personal mindfulness practice, motivation for writing The Mindful Teen, and how he measures the benefit of mindfulness in his students.
